Yes, a hunter and his son found bones in southern Morgan Co near Paragon. Previously investigators indicated they had found evidence in Salt Creek.

IDS: Volunteers to re-poster to raise awareness of Lauren Spierer

Volunteers have been invited to attend an event to put up posters to raise awareness about the disappearance of IU student Lauren Spierer, who was last seen at the corner of 11th and College avenues in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011.

P.U.M.P. 4 Lauren, which stands for “putting up more posters for Lauren,” will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. People interested in participating should meet in front of Smallwood Plaza, 455 N. College Ave. in Bloomington.

The event’s organizers were inspired to put up more posters after reading an anonymous letter that was sent to Lauren’s parents asking that the Spierers stop putting up posters on public property.

According to a post by Charlene Spierer on the @NewsOnLaurenS Twitter feed, the letter said, “We are sorry about your missing daughter. But don’t you think it’s time to do the right thing by Bloomington and stop littering our town with your posters?”...

Posters and tape will be available for volunteers at the event. A table outside Smallwood will be staffed with people who will instruct volunteers where to hang the posters.

Volunteers replace vandalized Spierer posters

Nov 5, 2011

BLOOMINGTON - Volunteers spent Saturday replacing posters of a missing Indiana University student that had been torn down.

Thousands of people have helped with the search for Lauren Spierer, putting up posters and searching nearly every inch of Bloomington. Recently, an anonymous letter was sent to Spierer's parents, criticizing the poster of their daughter as littering up the town.

"It is kind of hard to understand how a person could tear down posters of a missing person when, you know, this person has a family that is searching for them. How can you be heartless enough to tear down those posters?" said volunteer Joe Bailey.

During the past five months, thousands of posters with Spierer's picture, detailed information on where she was last seen and a police phone number have been placed all over Bloomington. Recently, hundreds of the posters have been taken down, followed by the letter to the missing IU junior's parents, critical of the search effort and the posters.

"That is what I said one time. For every poster they take down, there is 5-10 more that will put it back up. Take 'em down and we will put them right back up," said volunteer Maryanne Ryan.

And put them up they have. A new stack of posters went quick Saturday afternoon.

It's not that I'm unhappy with them.... I just think that the further we go, the less chance there is of catching the person. If we do get information, I seriously doubt the posters will have anything to do with it. Again, to me, it's just a reminder of what happened. It's like an advertisement for Bloomington as a kidnapping capitol.

Being of dirty mind, I think two phrases are poorly chosen. "Anything small could be big" and the "PUMP (Put up more posters) 4 Lauren" sounds like a sex-a-thon of some kind. But I have a rare and filthy mind...

I see your point, duck.

I'm not sure if it reflects on us poorly or as a caring community. Could see it either way. I think the reasoning is that we keep vigilant and also that the perpetrators not be allowed to forget-or think we will. Whether it is a useful strategy, I don't know.

Glad you were honest.

I am usually nothing but honest. Gets me into a lot of trouble.

I think fundraisers and events are a great way to keep the memory alive and they serve as a great reminder. I like to see something positive come from it like it did with Jill Behrman.

NYC private eye firm back in Bloomington, legally

Lauren Spierer's parents have a new ally in their desperate crusade to find their missing daughter.

After operating illegally in the Hoosier state this past September, the New York City private investigative Firm Beau Deitl & Associates can now get to work.

"All I'm interested in is trying to help the Spierer family find their little girl, and that's all we want to do," Said Dietl, reached by phone.

But the team of prominent private investigators from New York got off on a bad foot here in Indiana. Dietl didn't make friends quickly after he appeared on a local New York Fox News program, calling Bloomington's chief of police "Gomer Pyle."

His firm could've faced criminal charges, after coming to Indiana without a private investigative license from the state to investigateleads in what happened to Lauren Spierer.

Thursday, Bo Dietl, the former New York police officer turned investigator, did not appear before the state licensing board, but his CEO John Timoney and former deputy police commissioner of NYC did. So did Lauren's parents...

I remember Diekhoff when he was a detective, and he's not a Gomer, though I'v never heard him sing...

I think he actually meant Barney Fife. Gomer was never a police officer, was he?
