Blueberries

Postby Skanda » Tue Jun 24, 2008 7:53 am

Blueberry picking season began officially at my place at 6:52 this morning. Since I pick each berry lovingly by hand and they thusly require only a carbon baby footprint to produce, I am able to hold the line on price from the past two years.

$5 will get you a quart of these organic, pesticide- and herbicide-free beauties. And for you, just for you, a gallon is $18. I deliver to downtown (or such) on Tuesday and Friday, or whenever else it is convenient for me.

If you knew how those little gnats and flies attack me whenever I near the patch, you'd appreciate the berries you receive even more. They just fly right into the ear canal, with uncanny accuracy. Thank God for earplugs.

I forgot to add: pm me. I can generally generate 2 gallons/day, so I might have to make a ETA schedule, or resort to rationing.

Just a reminder, order now. Although with the number of bushes I have and the wealth of berries thereupon, I expect to be in full swing for about 5 weeks. But the early berries are big and fat, and have soaked up a lot of that rain we've been having.

They aren't flood berries, however. The only water they've touched is the sweet morning dew, which by the way is cold as hell when it's 55 degrees out in the morning, even though I'm wearing surgical gloves. But frostbite and hypothermia are just two of the sacrifices I'm willing to make for you, the blueberry-loving public.

Hand picked with surgical gloves, never touched by human hands. Organic. Good and good for you. These might be the best berries in the entire world.

Blueberry wine. And they're lovely in a glass of champagne.

Geez, ST, gimme a break. I'm trying to feed my family here. And those gnats are getting worse...

Any way to change those eye-rolling smilies to blue? It would be some good subliminal advertising.

Thanks.

It's probably my obligation to provide quick and easy blueberry recipes, so here's the first one.

BLUEBERRIES AND ICE CREAM

1. Buy some blueberries. As many as you can safely carry.
2. Buy some ice cream, preferably vanilla.
3. Wash some of those blueberries.
4. Dish up the ice cream.
5. Put the blueberries on top.
6. Eat.

prep time: about 30 f'ing seconds, ya lazy a**.
degree of difficulty: duh...
