HTO: Exec’s e-mail on Obama termed ‘very disturbing’

VP of local chamber’s Large Business of Year criticized for sending out images of president

A day after Hylant Group of Bloomington was honored as the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce’s Large Business of the Year, a vice president for the company is being assailed for sending out an inappropriate and racially-tinged e-mail on his company account, using his company signature.

The e-mail includes various images of President Barack Obama: as a communist, as Adolf Hitler, as the nerdy African-American child character Steve Urkel from the television show “Family Matters,” and as Mad magazine icon Alfred E. Neuman. One image depicts Obama, surrounded by communist and Muslim symbols, urinating on a map of the United States...

On Thursday, Denton “Denny” Flahault, vice president of Hylant Group of Bloomington, acknowledged sending the e-mail. “Unfortunately, yes,” he said. “It was not intended for the individual who received it and it was completely a mistake.”...

“The one of (Obama urinating) on the country with the hammer and sickle and the Muslim crescent — that stuff is so weird and mean-spirited, and, of course, the stuff with him as Hitler is so bizarre. Is he a socialist and a Nazi? What’s it supposed to mean?” ...

Interesting he doesn't regret sending the email, he only regrets sending it to the "wrong person". I wonder who the right person would have been?

What the fuck's up with his explanations of the images? Is he trying to justify something?

Since I don't have an HTO subscription and didn't read all of the article, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and presume the rest of the article contains his corrective statements regarding sending out the email (to anyone) and the reason why he sent those particular images if he didn't understand the images.

Pretty standard MO among inveterate racists:

Newscoma posted details of a racist email sent from Sherri Goforth, legislative aid for Sen. Diane Black (R-Gallatin). The email depicts the Presidents of the United States with President Barack Obama as a pair of eyes in a black background.

I spoke with Sherri Goforth minutes ago to confirm she sent this email. She confirmed she had sent it and also said she had received a letter of reprimand from her superiors but said she will stay on the job.

When I asked her if she understood the controversial nature of the photo, Goforth would only say she felt very bad about accidentally sending it to the wrong list. When I gave her a second chance to address the controversial nature of the email, she again repeated that she only felt bad about sending it to the wrong list of people.

Racists don't understand why they're racist or what constitutes racism. They just understand that they get in trouble sometimes for being racist so they've internalized that as they get in trouble if the "wrong people" see them behaving like racists.
I wish I were the president, just for the 747 and the cabinet I could assemble. I would have the best minds that I could find with a special eye out for those people who would vehemently disagree with each other. Alan Dershowitz, Adolf Hitler, Pope John Paul, Carl Sagan, Nietzsche, and Billy Graham Pathetic bag of shit Glenn Beck on the "best minds" that he could find.

Doesn't this guy belong to the same U.S. Chamber that opposed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Child Labor laws, etc.?

These local Chambers are all part of one big happy organization, right?

For those of you without HTO access, here's the link to the Hart Williams blog about the email, which also contains the email itself:

And I wonder how many blacks and minorities in Bloomington are insured by The Hylant Group? And now I know who NOT to have Insurance with.

This is not funny and sick sense of humor to say the least. If this is not Racsist what is?

Depicting this kind ourageous slime humor on the President of the United States as Hitler and pissing on the US Map really shows how far our country has degraded. Beyond decency.

From the Herald-Times article: "On Thursday, Denton “Denny” Flahault, vice president of Hylant Group of Bloomington, acknowledged sending the e-mail. “Unfortunately, yes,” he said. “It was not intended for the individual who received it and it was completely a mistake.” "

And what else goes on behind closed doors in the executives insurance board rooms at The Hylant Group?

So is it a local business or not?

Thanks NINO, so it is not a local company but a nationwide company with an office here?

I am confused these times when I can't even decide if a company is local or not, not that I have a problem with it anyway, I just feel like I left the train and it continue moving...

I am getting old :-)

That's almost certainly a waste of your benefits.

Oh, I disagree. I most certainly think the large majority of them do know exactly what they're saying and doing, and what it means, but when you have the right dismissing it as the left playing the race card whenever anything racist is put out there, it gives them the easy out to say 'oh, duh - I didn't know anyone would think that was racist, 'cause I totally have 2 black friends, so I can't be racist'.
